Krishak Bandhu is a farmer welfare scheme launched by the Government of West Bengal under the Department of Agriculture. The scheme provides financial assistance and social security to farmers in the state. It includes two main components: a direct cash transfer of Rs 2,000 per acre per year to farmers and a life insurance cover for the head of the farming family.

Eligibility

All farmers who are permanent residents of West Bengal and own agricultural land are eligible. The scheme covers farmers with any landholding size. Tenant farmers and sharecroppers with valid records are also eligible. The farmer should be the head of the family or the primary earning member engaged in agriculture.

Benefits

Direct cash transfer of Rs 2,000 per acre per year (subject to a maximum of 2 acres). The amount is paid in two installments coinciding with the kharif and rabi seasons. Additionally, life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh is provided to the head of the farming family in case of accidental death or permanent disability.

How to Apply

Farmers can register through the official Krishak Bandhu portal or visit their local agriculture office or block development office. The application requires land records, Aadhaar card and bank account details. After verification, the farmer receives a Krishak Bandhu card and the benefits are transferred to the bank account.
