PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a flagship central government scheme launched in February 2019 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The scheme aims to provide direct income support of Rs 6,000 per year to small and marginal farmers across India. This financial assistance is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each, helping them meet agricultural expenses and improve their livelihood.
Objectives of the Scheme
The primary objective of PM Kisan Yojana is to supplement the financial needs of small and marginal farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and yield. The scheme also aims to protect farmers from falling into the debt trap of moneylenders and ensure a steady income flow for their agricultural activities.
All small and marginal farmers who own less than 2 hectares of cultivable land are eligible for this scheme. The scheme covers farmers irrespective of their caste, religion, gender or community. Landless farmers who cultivate land on lease are also eligible provided they have valid cultivation documents. However, former and current government employees, income tax payers, and professionals like doctors and engineers are not eligible for the scheme.
Eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 per year in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. The first installment is released between April and July, the second installment between August and November, and the third installment between December and March. The amount is directly credited to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the beneficiary through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.
Farmers can apply through multiple channels. They can visit the official website pmkisan.gov.in and register under the Farmers Corner section. Alternatively, they can visit their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or approach the local Agriculture Officer or Patwari for assistance with the application process. The application requires basic details including Aadhaar number, land records and bank account information.
