Gatidhara is a transport subsidy scheme launched by the Government of West Bengal under the Department of Transport. The scheme provides financial assistance to students from economically weaker sections for their commuting expenses. It aims to reduce the financial burden of transportation on students and encourage them to continue their education without being hindered by distance or travel costs.
Eligibility
Students from economically weaker families who are permanent residents of West Bengal are eligible. The scheme covers students studying in government and government-aided schools, colleges and universities. Family income should be below the threshold specified by the state government. Students must have regular attendance and good academic standing.
Benefits
Subsidized or free bus passes for students to commute between their residence and educational institution. The subsidy covers the cost of public transport including state-run buses. The scheme significantly reduces the monthly transportation expenses for students from low-income families.
